I thought may be God! Our current National Anthem "Jana Gana Mana" is sung throughout the country. Did you know the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka, was written by Rabindranath Tagore in honor of King George V and the Queen of England when they visited India in 1919? To honor their visit Pundit Motilal Nehru had the five stanzas included, which are in praise of the King and Queen. (And most of us think it is in the praise of our great Motherland!!!)

In the original Bengali verses only those provinces that were under British rule, i.e. Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maratha... etc. were mentioned. None of the princely states were recognized which are integral parts of India now - Kashmir, Rajasthan, Andhra, Mysore or Kerala. Neither the Indian Ocean nor the Arabian Sea was included, since they were directly under Portuguese rule at that time.

The Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka implies that King George V is the lord of the masses and Bharata Bhagya Vidhata is "the bestower of good fortune". Following is a translation of the five stanzas which glorify the King:

1st stanza (Indian)People wake up remembering your good name and ask for your blessings and they sing your glories.

2nd stanza Around your throne people of all religions come and give their love and anxiously wait to hear your kind words.

3rd stanza Praise to the King for being the charioteer, for leading the ancient travelers beyond misery.

4th stanza Drowned in the deep ignorance and suffering, poverty stricken, unconscious country? Waiting for the wink of your eye and your mother's (the Queen's) true protection.

5th stanza in your compassionate plans, the sleeping Bharat (India) will wake up. We bow down to your feet O' Queen, and glory to Rajeshwara (the King).

This whole poem does not indicate any love for the Motherland but depicts a bleak picture. When you sing Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka, whom are you glorifying? Certainly not the Motherland. Is it God? The poem does not indicate that.

It is time now to understand the original purpose and the implication of this, rather than blindly sing as has been done the past fifty plus years. Nehru chose the present national anthem as opposed to Vande Mataram because he thought that it would be easier for the band to play. It was an absurd reason but Today for that matter bands have advanced and they can very well play any music. So they can as well play Vande Mataram, which is a far better composition in praise of our dear Motherland - India.

Source is a FWD mail.

Colour....

A Brit bumps into a sardar, and Poking fun tells him..

You Indians are multicoloured... My wife and me decided to purchase vegetables from a wholesale Vegetable market which is only one sundays...

For those who don't know it is opposite to Govardhan theater & near yeshwanthpur railway station.

This was our first trip to this market... My wife was excited to know the prices were so low... 1 KG beans costing 20 Rs outside costed Rs 8/-. Onions costed Rs 6/- against 10/-.

so she shopped to her heart's content, In all it was around 15 kilos of various vegetables... that costed us just 80/-...

10 days later i got a love letter from police (Read as:- no parking fine notice). I visitied the Local Police station to be told that the place where I had parked my car was a NO parking area (NO BOARD WAS VISIBLE) The Fine Sheet read :- Parking in road obstructing movement in a high speed lane.

I debated... but in vain... finally i decided to give up Rs 100/- (fine amount). To my UTTER Surprise the system showed My vechicle belonging to someone else... i was Aghast and produced the Registration Book. The Police official said " Please visit the main Office and then confirm that this vechicle is yours Or it could lead to problems".

when I visited the main police, the same system now it reflected my name.... Among the facilitators were many well-known motivational speakers. One such speaker boldly approached the pulpit and, gathering the entire crowd's attention, said, "The best years of my life were spent in the arms of a woman who wasn't my wife!" The crowd was shocked! He followed up by saying, "That woman was my mother!" The crowd burst into laughter and he gave his speech, which was well received.

About a week later, one of the ministers who had attended the=seminar decided to use that joke in his sermon. As he shyly approached the pulpit one sunny Sunday, he tried to rehearse the joke in his head. It=was a bit foggy to him. Getting to the microphone he said loudly, "The greatest years of my life were spent in the arms of a woman who was not my=wife!"

His congregation sat shocked, murmuring. After standing there for almost 10 seconds trying to recall the second half of the joke, the pastor finally blurted out "...and I can't remember who she was!"

Moral of the story: Don't copy if you can't paste

Office Upgrade

Must Know of Credit Cards.

Have you ever recieved a threatening call on your life and security, from a credit card company or its appointed recovery agents ?????

NO !!! The files you either drag & Drop or copy paste will actually be stored as e-mails sent from you to you.

Now this can clutter your gmail inbox
you could create a filter to archive the mails containing GMAILFS: in their subject and go on storing the files..

There are a few things you must know...

1) You can't upload files more than 10M
2) The total file name size has to be less than 40 charaters.
3) since it is an experimental tool it cannot guarantee that files stored in this manner will be accessible in the future (subject to Gmail changing it's policies).
Whatever i quite liked this and am using this to store not so imp files...

For more information visit viksoe.dk

Bread & Omlette, that cost him his job...

The training this time has come to an end, but not before a sad incident..

Any outstations visit means Royal treatment & good food... With these expectations we reached the guesthouse...

When we landed we were asked to share the rooms with 3 members.. that put the total to 9 for 3 rooms with only 6 beds..

Not a good start... No tea was served.. Breakfast was bread,Jam & Omlettes & Juice.. as against a platter of fruits and atleast 2 south india breakfast dishes..

Later we were told that as there is a party at the guest house that night there would be no lunch...

The dinner was not upto the mark.. and we really had to stand in demand to get our dinner...

Our guest house cook/maintenece is outsourced.. in such a way that every serving he charges us.. and the more no of people he cooks for he makes that much more profit... and hence his major concentration was on the party of 45 people...

The next day's (Today) also was no different as our man had slept at 3 am in the morning.

When our training organiser asked us about the stay at guest house.. he was in shock & matter was escalated...

When casually checking at the hr on tickets i heard some screaming from the admin cabin... it was out admin.. the lady was on top of her voice on our guesthouse care-taker...

Later i learnt from the organiser that the care-taker was fired...

i Clarified it to him that we meant add more people there & not fire him.. he later mentioned that this was not that the admin decided that he be fired & she was protecting from feb this year...

Feel a little bad about the whole thing.. I don't know whether what we did was right or wrong... we never ever wanted the man out.

Tragedy of Drinks...

Most of us have heard sad stories on accident's involving alcohol at some part in your lives...

But you would have never encountered such a devestating alcohol related accident.

Click here to see the picture...

Ps:- Hold your heart...

Is world ending ???

NASA predicts this... One of the prominent cricketers in India, Former captain so to say. I was a big time fan of him, took cover stating he was from minority community.

I think India is probably only country in this world that supports minorities majorly.

Support poor and needy people irrespective of their caste or creed. Assuming that all forward class people are well off is the most stupid mistake. Even if majority of forward class are well off there are still a few needy in them.

Merit must be given the preference. I still remember my own brother who secured a 94.5% in one of the all India medical exams, Despite such a brilliant effort he was faced with the irony of the country when his own freind who secured just 70% take the seat which he worked hard for. Reason ??? Backward class. What is this if it not racism of the other kind.

when prime ministers & presidents of the country are to be operated upon, Import doctors or fly abroad.

you may argue that doctors leave abroad once they are educated here.... Give me one good reason to stay back and serve Indians.. You don't encourage merit, you promote lower performing people just beacuse he comes from a lower class. Politicians know that these 70%'s 75%'s are no match for those 95%'s & 99%'s. besides they have to get into colleges taking loan's why ??? upper class of people assumed rich.

Quota systems are created only to get votes and loot the government..

I HATE INDIA FOR THIS.

White peacock

Have you seen this ??? or is it just computer gimmicks ?

Tata's Done the Country proud again....

is rated as the best steel producers in the world...
Kudos!!! It was addressed, "Mom."

With the worst premonition, she opened the envelope and read the letter with trembling hands:

Dear Mom,

It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new boyfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Dad and you.

I've been finding real passion with John and he is so nice-even with all his piercings, tattoos, beard, and his motorcycle clothes. But it's not only the passion mom, I'm pregnant and John said that we will be very happy. He already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter.

He wants to have many more children with me and that's now one of my dreams too. John taught me that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone and we'll be growing it for us and trading it with his friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want.

In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so John can get better; he sure deserves it!!

Don't worry Mom, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Some day I'm sure we'll be back to visit so you can get to know your grandchildren.

Your daughter,
Judith

PS: Mom, none of the above is true. I'm over at the neighbor's house. I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my report card that's in my desk center drawer.

I love you! There are bigwigs who are not worried about the customers as they have their lot. Then there are banks who want to make it big…

It is this competition that gets the best to me (customer). Gone are the days when customer had to run pillar to post for a job… Now companies run pillar to post for the customers..

A very good example is the ORANGE Savings Account from ING Vysya. The storage space that comes with justifies this as MP3 Player more than a Mobile. (34 MB on Phone + 512 MB Card). This can easily fit 10 Cd's. It also has an 2 GB Card as an accessory if you want more space..

The Sony Ericsson W800i is surely the mobile to watch for... Personally I would have preferred all this integrated with a UIQ device something like the Sony Ericsson P900.

Surely would keep a close watch on this and hope it fits in my budget... This would be a great gift to those people who spend hours travelling in buses to office.

More info at Sony Ericsson site.

Marriages are made in heaven

As a child I always thought heaven was up in skies...

Now a Marriage is made in heaven.. Every Tom Dick & Hardy I approached would strongly advise me against the stocks & mutual funds. This had kind of put me off but there was a desire to get at it someday.

It happened without my knowledge. My wife told me of a very exciting way of making money with not much of realization that she was talking of shares /markets (without much understanding/Knowledge). This led to my meeting with Ariez Jasswala who had put the idea in my wife brain now conviced me. But I wanted to thread this line carefully. The least what I wanted was to get back the amount that I would have invested. I was in it and little had I realized that I was in it.

Soon, I forgot all about the investment I had done. Till a casual conversation my friend, who was a little better than me in terms of market found faults with my investment hopes. Now this scared me as I did want to loose my hard saved money. It was after this I decided not to be a layman in the market.

Soon I was talking Mutual funds to everyone. With a little knowledge I decided to invest and try it out. With this in mind I met a couple of Investment agents. One of the agents (Girish) proposed I try investing in TATA Infrastructure Fund. I did and started monitoring the growth. Then I realized that the ULIP investment was also in markets.

I am not still an expert, but I am sure I am learning the tricks of trade. Believe me it gives me a high now. Am I addicted? No I don’t think I am addicted but I surely know better ways to manage my funds.

I am at a stage where I can't think of maximizing my investments in market at will. Hopefully I will have my time & money where I will seriously play with money and also be successful.

Earning $2000 Per day...

Yes you read it right... No Big names not much of publicity and directions for the fair could be seen.

Upon reaching the entrance I was told that we needed to carry a hardcopy personally in order to seek entrance.

It had 2 seperate entries. one for freshers and other for the experienced. I did not see any sense in this specially after both the crowds were mingled inside the hall causing chaos.

I happened to over hear a company official saying to the other let's leave the fresher's CV here..

There was crowd and all that the companies were interested was to collect a few resumes. Why not… apart from probably Igate solutions and Cognizant technologies there was nobody conducting interviews. It was must say decently managed...

It could probably be seen as a boon for freshers..

In all it was a VERY low key affair….

Train Journey...

It is for the second time that I am doing a Back to Bangalore Stuff… First was when I flew from Muscat,Oman to Bangalore for good. Now it is a transfer from Chennai to Bangalore…

I must say it is quite a feeling… Well with some difficulties which was overcome by me, Many Thanks to Phani Kumar.. who was there at the Rush hour ( Me managing to catch the train).

I finally settled into my upper berth of kaveri express. I was awaken by some shouting… Wondering what happened I peeked out of my berth… from top I could see a person arguing with the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner).

Watched them for a while and quickly learnt that TTE was demanding Rs 500/- for carrying a false ticket. But then the guy (an employee of ICICI Pru Life) was arguing that he had bought the ticket from an agent by paying money (Hard earned) to GOVERNMENT and not by some stone or mud. The TTE was saying he does not care if paid money or stone and he was carrying a false ticket hence he has to either pay up or leave the train.

Now this had got almost everyone watching them the argue. I asked the TTE why is he asking him Rs 500/- . The TTE told me that ticket say the person traveling is M 48 and name as Mohd faizal. Since this guy is young I was suspicious and asked him for an ID proof for which he showed me an ICICI PRU LIFE company ID card which say he is Rakesh & his age as 28. Now as per rules he is a false ticket holder and he has 2 options which is either he pays me Rs 500/- as fine or Leave the train. The other guy (Rakesh) said that he purchased the ticket from an agent paying 50 Rs more than the ticket fare.

To which I clarified that TTE was not the person to be blamed for this goof up and it was his fault for not verifying the tickets before he paid the agent the money. I told him my ticket too was purchased by an agent and it displays correct details.

Now Rakesh got a little wild and reverted to his Stone Mud theory and was abusing the railways claiming hid dad was the king of roadways. TTE not loosing his cool said.. Take my name and badge no.. please complain at the nearest RPF Station, but now decided what you want to do.. I can’t let the entire bogie be disturbed… By now the RPF guys arrived at scene and looking at them he said he will leave the train. He was dropped at the next stop.

I really have no words to describe this person.. any comments ???

The India INC thinks like me..

Following my previous post on our FM And Anurag's comments of only one paper being sold... It will not only dehydrate, but will also change your colour. I learnt this the hard way on Saturday.

Match was intra company one, But we had to prove something to them, as the match prior to the one played on saturday. My Team had lost ( I had not played then ;))

We arrived to the ground where the mat was laid and wickets were in place. Shortly after us the Opponents arrived.

Our Team discussed and decided on the winning toss we would bowl. We won the toss. It was a 20 over per side match.

Anurag and Arun produced a magnificient spell reducing the opponents to 15/4 in the 4th over. They did pretty well to recover in the middle but then anurag(captain of the team) brought himself on to seal the coffin. The opponents were bowled out for 86 with 5 overs to spare.

Deepu and me started the innings, but deepu was out in the 3rd ball of the second over. Next mani was out and our scorecard read 12/2 in 3rd over.

Ashraf and me joined in what I can say was a memorable partnership as by the end of the 10th over we were 72/2. By now I was severely dehydrated, had to be walked out and was forced to retire. I had scored 36 runs with 5 fours. The best shots of my innings was the backfoot cover drive, the late cut (thanks to our vyalikval back runs cricket..) and the On drive.

The team carried me off on shoulders as i had really put up big effort to bear the heat and carry the team to victory.

I shall see if i can post a few snaps of the next match that is due to be held on 22 nd may...

Hope i can keep the good show for the next match...

Savings bank accounts...

Disclaimer:- I don't intend to point a particular bank is good or bad, I don't think I am competent in any manner for the comparison. I am only mentioning my experiences. My statements need not be the basis for anyone/person to decide his/her banking ways.

With so many banks around & many more coming into market. I think it was very apt for the Governor to RBI to say that he would like to see only 8-10 Banks. With a huge presence that would make the difference in the banking sector.

Here is a layman's (in terms of banking sector) comparisons among the banks that I have dealt with and also their advantages.

I first opened my account in Canara bank vyalikaval branch, Bangalore way back in 90's (don't remember the date). It was opened as I had got my first pay check of Rs 750/- ;). I later on went on to have accounts with Bank Muscat, National Bank of Oman, Citibank, HDFC bank, ICICI bank, Post office bank & Indian bank, some of the different accounts with SBI, HSBC & Standard Charted.

Let me see what I feel about all these banks.

1. Canara Bank : Sentimentally attached to the bank, Definitely not happy with their Internet banking. Customer service.
I hardly use this account, except for an occasional transaction just for the heck of it.

When initially I opened as a kid it was exciting to bank with this bank, wait with token no's to get your cash, watching all those bankers, busily opening ledgers (big books as I called them then). Pass books manually being updated.

Then came a time when computers were introduced and canara bank were among the few to go in for computerization. I remember this even now that I was looking after Vijaya bank's Netware server implementation. My friends who worked for PCS installing PC at canara bank headquarters in Bangalore.

Nothing has changed for this bank, it still follows the token systems (I think masses of this bank are still those people who want to stand in queues Like my DAD who hates to go to an ATM).

It took about 3 months for me to get my internet banking username & password & took about 6 weeks for my ATM card (Visa debit card) to reach me.

Likes: - Actually None. Apart from the sentimental value attached to this particular account.

2. Bank Muscat:- When I flew to Muscat, I banked with this bank. Must say truly exceptional experience whilst in this banking here.

Their customer service, ATM were reachable (in Oman any one could use any banks ATM's to withdraw money, so ATM's was never an issue.) were really good. Internet banking they introduced was a good one.

Had attractive schemes where you could take part in lucky draws if your balance in the account was more than 100 Rials ( Rials are the currency of the country) (your chances would double if u had 200 Rials )

Drawbacks:-
1. They charged a small amount for maintaining our savings account with them.
2. Cheque books would be issued only to a current account & again charged.
3. No interests given on your money held in saving account.

3. National Bank Of Oman: Switched to this bank primarily for 2 reasons:

a. Interest free installment was given for electronic purchases.
b. No savings bank account maintenance charges.

Dislikes of this bank:

1. Pathetic Customer service quite contradictory to their punch line.
2. The bank also had the scheme of prizes for 100 Rials, but no debit card or cheque book for this account.
3. Internet banking, you could not do any queries as the database would be shut after 9:30 PM. (Ridiculous for the definition of internet banking)

4. Citibank:

Likes:
a. Excellent NRI Customer care services.
b. Money would be transferred quickly.
c. Mature internet banking.
d. Global ATM (Best thing so far I have seen, Access any VISA ATM, FOC)
e. Dual operators for the same account..

Dislikes:
a. Minimum balance of US $1000. (Money would be locked can't use it).
b. Poor Exchange Rates.
c. Good internet banking but not very easy, can be confusing.
d. Bill payments are charged. (Rs 100/- per half year.)

4. HDFC Bank:

Likes:

a) Has ATM's Where ever I move around.
b) Easy & Good Internet banking

Dislikes /Drawbacks:

a) My biggest dislike is the when cheques are issued; I would not get the name to whom it is issued. You would need to call the bank for the info.
b) E-mail support is VERY POOR.
c) No 3rd party bank transfers,
d) Bill payment is charged (Rs 25/- Per quarter)

ICICI Bank:

I think it is a very good bank considering it is an INDIAN BANK. No problems of bill pay charges, Name of person to whom cheque is issued missing.

Likes:
1) Good internet banking.
2) Good ATM network.

Dislikes:

1) Money transfers are costly, (if you are from middle east) though faster.
2) Internet banking not easy, AD's are seen while banking, gives u a scare of internet security.

I would probably rate this is the best at the moment if you are a resident Indian. though ATM's are mostly crowded.

Middle east apart from money transfer's it is ok, but their tie with ME bank in Dubai is a step forward and hope the transfer issue would not be a bottle neck.

Post office & Indian bank:-

PO offers best interest rates for a long term RD Excellent for Small Savings. Indian bank for a RD of one year. Apart from their good interest rates, I don't see anything that is so appreciable in these to organizations, No internet banking. No ATM cards.. Not much of excitement of this.

The post office's Monthly Income Scheme is something that I feel is the best at the moment.

Summing it up, I personally feel ICICI Bank has been doing a good job…

Eliott Beach Experience.

After a good dinner, my freinds and me decided to take a stroll to the Eliot’s beach at Besentnagar at Chennai. (By the way I am a proud Bangalorean in Chennai till the month end)

It is Good beach. It was quite windy and partly deserted as it was around 9:30pm each one of us were wishing if we had our girlfriends instead of the other guys ;)...

I spotted a Kwality Walls ice cream three wheeler, wanting to have one approached him and asked him for a lime punch. He asked to pay Rs 12/-. I looked at the MRP of the same. It showed Rs 10/-. I asked him why the extra Rs 2/-. He said it is beach and hence I will have to pay that premium. I debated and told him I would only pay Rs 10/- for it. He said he would not sell in that case. Looking at my argument another lady said I was right and she too returned the ice-cream like me. I walked about another 100 -150 mtrs to another Kwality walls ice cream three wheeler. Asked him for the same and he asked me to pay only Rs.10/- and did not even talk a word more.

I was glad I left the ice-cream at the first fellow. The point I am trying to make is not about saving that Rs 2/-. I don't think it can be justified in any manner that you have to pay a 3rd person the extra Rs 2/- just because we are at beach, After all it is hard earned.

I tried to look at Kwality walls website to complain. I could not find an E-mail address to do so. What do u think??? Should I have paid the extra Rs 2/-, cause I wanted to have an ice-cream at beach?????.

My First Post.

Ok!!! so i am the latest entry ???. can't say that, can you?.
